Great Expressions Dental Centers operates about 220 offices across nine states with its largest concentration in Florida, where roughly 80 locations are based. Chris Scott, Chief Information Officer, described the organization as working across seven regions, with additional concentration in Michigan and Georgia and smaller clusters in states like New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Ohio.
Chris also noted that, with the addition of Absolute Dental, his team is also supporting 43 additional offices in Nevada. With that footprint, Great Expressions needed a rollout partner that could execute consistently across locations, adapt to site-level differences, and help move large initiatives forward without creating added coordination complexity.
Before MellinTech, Chris had seen how difficult multi-site rollouts could become when coverage, planning, and field execution weren’t aligned. In some regions, completing a rollout meant piecing together multiple vendors, which added coordination, increased variability, and made it easier for details to get missed.
Great Expressions needed a partner that could bring consistency to the field side of the work. That meant more than general IT support. It meant having a team that understood the environment, could work inside active practices, and could repeat the same standard from location to location.
Chris described a clear division of labor between Great Expressions and MellinTech. Internally, his team handles strategy, configuration, testing, and project-specific technical decisions before deployment. Once that work is defined, MellinTech takes over the part that has to be repeated across offices in a consistent way.
That model was especially clear in the Square terminal rollout, the first major project MellinTech completed with Great Expressions. Great Expressions developed the deployment concept, integrated Square into its workflow, and configured the devices at headquarters. MellinTech then handled the field execution, assessing each office, identifying where cabling was needed, running cable when required, installing the terminals, validating that everything was working, and moving on to the next location.
Chris also emphasized the structure behind that execution. MellinTech plans heavily up front, assigns point people, and uses checklists and follow-up to keep each office aligned with the same standard.
The value of the relationship showed up most clearly in execution.
• Large-scale rollout support
On the Square deployment, MellinTech helped support a rollout that touched roughly 240 offices at the time, handling the onsite assessment, cabling, installation, and validation work needed to complete each location.
• One partner instead of many
Great Expressions avoids having to stitch together multiple vendors just to cover a region or complete a single rollout.
• Less rework in the field
Chris said the amount of rework and return trips required from MellinTech is significantly lower than what he has seen with other vendors.
• Better adaptability when conditions change
Weather, office closures, and other unexpected issues did not stop the work. MellinTech adjusted schedules and kept the rollout moving.
Chris expects MellinTech to play an even larger role in future rollouts. One upcoming example is Great Expressions’ move toward a more fully cloud-based imaging environment, a transition that will require hands-on work across offices to ensure sensors, drivers, and workstation configurations function properly in the field.
That next phase is a natural extension of the role MellinTech already plays: helping Great Expressions move multi-site initiatives from planning into reliable field execution.
Since 2002, MellinTech has partnered with multi-location organizations to plan, build, and standardize technology across offices nationwide. We augment in-house IT teams and are best aligned with organizations operating 25 or more locations. We focus on three things:
1. New Construction: Design and installation for network, low-voltage cabling, Wi-Fi, A/V, and device connectivity so every site is ready on day one.
2. Rollouts: Coordinated multi-site programs for M&A conversions and technology upgrades, from discovery and standards through site execution and closeout.
3. Moves, adds, and changes: On-site field services to relocate, replace, or expand equipment, cabling, and racks across existing offices with minimal disruption.
